    Dentistry 4.0 – digital dentistry

The 4th Industrial Revolution in dentistry

Dentistry is a highly dynamic scientific field, and the changes taking place in it reflect the development of the basic and, above all, technical sciences. History offers many examples of technical innovations that have shaped new diagnostic and therapeutic procedures in clinical dentistry. Faster than expected, a major shift toward automation and robotics is emerging in industry and in the medical sciences. The changes have been so profound that they have been named the Fourth Industrial Revolution.

Even the greatest visionaries could not have imagined how quickly the dental profession, its science, and the accompanying industry would embrace the new concept of digital transformation. In scope and complexity, this transformation surpasses all previous ones. The digital revolution has enabled dentistry to support almost all clinical and laboratory procedures with digital technologies. This new revolution, this new concept, has taken root and become known as Dentistry 4.0.

The use of digital technologies — intraoral scanners, 3D printing, CAD/CAM systems, digital 2D and 3D radiographs — enables faster and more accurate diagnostics. Numerous software systems reduce the need for analog (conventional) impressions and shorten the fabrication time of restorations. Digital dentistry is at the top of the priority list at the Stamenković & Team practice, because, alongside its comfort and precision, it allows our clinicians to create personalized treatment plans for patients requiring complex therapy. On top of the advantages already mentioned, digital dentistry is a clean technology (with no medical or municipal waste) and fits perfectly into the technological trends of the 21st century.

Continuity at the top: The latest global trends from Miami

    Miami (2024)

Esthetic dentistry is changing at an incredible pace. What was cutting-edge a few years ago is already outdated today. To always deliver the best to our patients, continuity in education is essential. That is why our next stop was Miami in 2024 — the 15th SCAD Annual Meeting, held at the Novotel Miami Brickell hotel.

Unlike Chicago, where we participated with our own scientific work, in Miami we focused on absorbing the latest knowledge from the congress, whose main theme was “Where Art Meets Science – A Pathway 2 Success.” The focus was on new generations of ultra-natural materials and digital precision that simulate the behavior of teeth under different lighting conditions (in the office, in sunlight, or in a restaurant).

What are we bringing back to the practice, straight from Florida?

    • A NEW GENERATION OF MATERIALS. Working with ceramics that offer even better optical properties, natural light reflection, and long-lasting luster.

    • MINIMALLY INVASIVE ESTHETICS. Techniques that allow us to achieve outstanding changes in tooth shape and color with minimal or no reduction of your natural tooth structure.

    • FIVE YEARS OF CONTINUITY. Our practice actively follows the work of the SCAD association (2019, 2023, 2024), which positions us among the leaders in esthetic dentistry in our region.

One step further: Our scientific work on the world stage in Chicago

    Chicago (2023)

Attending world congresses to learn is a sign of dedication. But being invited to present your own scientific work before the world's leading experts in dental esthetics is proof of top quality and a recognition many can only dream of.

Building on the foundations laid in California, the next major step was at the SCAD conference in Chicago in 2023, held at the Chicago Marriott Downtown Magnificent Mile. The main theme that year was “Minimally invasive & digital protocols for maximized esthetics,” which aligned perfectly with the philosophy of our practice. Before an international audience, we presented our advanced technique: how, in everyday practice, we objectively determine the color of ceramic crowns using the scientific CIE Lab formula.

Why does this matter when choosing your dentist?

    • THE END OF SUBJECTIVE GUESSING. Color is no longer chosen “by eye.” The CIELab formula completely eliminates human error and the usual problems with poor lighting in the office.

    • A PERFECT MATCH WITH THE ORAL ENVIRONMENT. This technique allows ceramic materials to blend seamlessly with the remaining natural teeth in color and translucency.

    • A GLOBALLY VALIDATED METHOD. Our American colleagues enthusiastically embraced our presentation, confirming that our practice applies protocols at the very forefront of digital dentistry.

Where it all began: At the source of American esthetic dentistry in California

    Newport Beach (2019)

Have you ever noticed that some artificial teeth look “plastic” and overly white, while others look completely natural, as if they were your own? The answer lies not only in the material, but also in the science of tooth color.

Our journey toward the top of this science began in September 2019. That is when Dr Stamenković attended the 11th Annual Meeting of the prestigious American association SCAD (Society for Color and Appearance in Dentistry). The event was held at the Hyatt Regency Newport Beach hotel in California, under the slogan “NextGen Esthetics: A Global Outreach,” — the world's leading institution that brings together dentists and researchers to create the perfect, natural appearance of teeth.

What do the conclusions of this SCAD annual conference mean for you as our patient?

    • COLOR IS NOT JUST WHITE. A tooth has its own translucency, depth, and a specific way of refracting light.

    • AN INDIVIDUAL APPROACH. In this training we adopted the American standards by which the color of a crown or veneer is fully matched to your natural teeth and complexion.

    • NO “ARTIFICIAL TEETH” EFFECT. From California we brought knowledge that guarantees visual harmony — no one around you will notice that you have any dental work, only a beautiful smile.
